Hardware checklist

Primary specifications

1. CPU: ถามเพื่อนๆ กันเองน่าจะได้ spec  ถ้าให้นึกถึง Intel ตอนนี้ก็ซัก Core i5, i7
2. Memory อย่างน้อย 4GB  ปัจจุบันน่าจะเป็น 8GB แล้ว
3. Harddisc = ?  ถ้าเป็น hybrid drive หรือ SSD ก็จะแพงกว่า capacity น้อยกว่า แต่ทำงานได้เร็วขึ้นเยอะเวลาเปิด/ปิด/hibernate เครื่อง หรือ read/write file.
4. Keyboard layout: ดูดีๆ ว่าถนัดหรือเปล่า มันจะมีพวกปุ่ม control, navigation (ที่นอกเหนือจากแป้นพิมพ์ตัวอักษรที่เป็นพื้นฐาน) ที่จัดวางไม่เหมือนกัน  บางแบบถึงกับเอาปุ่ม Windows ไปรวมกลุ่มขวาบนเลยก็มี
5. LAN port supports Gigabit Ethernet.
6. WiFi supports classes g, n.
7. USB: มีจำนวนกี่ port?  เป็น USB 3.x กี่พอร์ต?
8. WebCam?
9. Battery ได้กี่ชั่วโมงโดยเฉลี่ย?

Important features

1. Screen size & resolution: เลือกให้สัมพันธ์กัน และ OK กับสายตาเรา  เช่น ถ้าจอภาพมี resolution สูงแต่ physical size ไม่ใหญ่พอจนต้องปรับขนาดต่างไปจาก native spec ให้แสดง icon หรือ text ใหญ่ขึ้นจะเป็นการเลือกที่ไม่ได้เรื่องเลย
2. Weight: อย่าคิดว่า 1-2 ขีดไม่สำคัญ
3. I/O port อื่นๆ เช่น IEEE Firewire, eSATA
4. Keyboard backlight

Software

1. Genuine/licensed Microsoft Windows 8 (we can downgrade to 7 if not ready yet), unless you can install & use Linux OS.

Uninstall Memeo Send

The software is bundled with Seagate FreeAgent-Go HDD.  It regularly checks for update but recently it's no longer free.

No simple setting to disable 'check-update' function (need MSCONFIG), so I'd rather uninstall it.

What happens next is: Memo Backup later alerts that some component/module is missed and would reinstall.  Unfortunately, Control-Panel's "Programs and Features" has only one choice -- so I go 'uninstall' }:|
