How to collect emails for sharing away, in GMail

a.k.a., for forwarding :)

Method 1: Forward under a common subject
  • Define common subject for each email thread (ex., "FYI: Cyber magics").  Optionally assign label "++" to ease locating the mail thread later.
  • Copy and paste into the thread's new reply and review appropriate recipients when send.

Method 2: Use label
Simply forward the email, and then assign label.  Here is recommendation: Tags for FYI & Forwarding.

Tagging: singular or plural?

Try renaming some tags to singular form.
- We started learning English from singular before plural.
- Uncountable nount and adjective are singular.
- Each post usually means singular (the post "is a" ...), in spite that we think of plural when find things.

However, it's never perfect. I'm still relunctant with GMail labels such as forums, markets, people talks.

Rename label "void!"

Recently I defined this label in GMail to substitute LN miss/incomplete folder. Now change to "0!" (zero).

GMail search: Stars elsewhere

is:starred -in:inbox
I set this as one pane of multiple-inboxes. Later I feel that it is not truly practical: I'd rather check them from "Starred" tab no matter they are still in Inbox or not.

GMail labels

Facts found
  1. Symbol characters can be used except caret (^).
  2. ?(to verify)? Cannot prefix label with slash (/), dash (-).
  3. System can look up word after blank, period (.) and comma (,): i.e., can look for ".abcde" or "grp: abcde" when type "ab".

My tactical labels

Label
Description
_my team: i.e., "under-line"
&+my (selected) peer coworkers and higher.
...2"... too": i.e., also or secondary.
fyi2/fwd2FYI too / Forward too, or "for your information to forward too".
Actually it is "Euro-currency sign", but I'd rather use it for "calendar/event".
%my colleagues (we have some mutual benefits)
*%highlights and/or measurement (somewhat beyond just ".report")

Other label names
  • delete2
  • report2, notify2
  • OoO/away (out of office)
